Andrew Roe - Fun Stuff

This page lists some of the things I like to do or find interesting. Our whole family loves the North Shore of Lake Superior. At right is a picture of us sitting on the rocks on the norht shore of Lake Superior. This picture was taken near Lustsen, Minnesota. There one can not see the Wisconsin shoreline from the Minnesota side. I guess that's what makes it seem a bit like an ocean. On a stormy day it can really seem like the ocean.

This page is divided into 3 sections of fun; activities, travel, and interesting facts. There is much more to life than those 3 things of course, but these 3 catagories of fun are near the top of my list of things to do when free time becomes available. I could have added a catagory for work, because I do think doing some work is rejuvinating and in that sense also fun. But then the whole rest of this document is about work.

Bicycling is a big activity for both of us. This picture reminds me of that feelig of being on a bike and just having fun exploring.

Cross-Country skiing is also a lot of fun. Especially when the snow is perfect and the scenery is a beautiful forest in the north country.

I like to play certain board games and certain card games. I liked the card game Canasta, but not many people play that anymore. My other favorite is Bridge. In any event it is always best when dealt Aces.

Lately I've tried to paint some pictures. Mostly I've mimiced other art. It is a lot cheaper to make it yourself than buy an original and it adds some interesting ambiance. How do you like my attempt to draw Van Gogh's "Sun Flowers"?

Our first trip was to Glacier Park. Since then we've done quite a few more trips and they have all been special, just like that first one.

We have been to Mexico quite a few times. The beach at Tulum in Quinta Roo, Mexico is as nice of ocean beach as one can imagine. Going to Mexico around the end of winter is very invigorating.

I think there are other wonderful places in the world besides Minnesota and Mexico and one of them is Italy. We have been lucky to have visited Europe a few times and most lucky to have included Italy twice. The image you see of Cinque Terre is hardly sufficient to convey how nice it really is.

Sometimes I just want to explore interesting facts. One whole catagory of interest is ancient Egypt. The Pyramids, their gods, their writing. It all seems so exotic. The Eye of Horus, seems like about the best image to use to introduce my facination with ancient Egypt. I never seem to tire of reading about ancient Egypt.

Another interesting facet of nature is the Fibonacci numbers and the whole notion of the Golden ratio. The snail is a good example of the Golden ratio in nature. That ratio is what the Fibonacci numbers really lead to.
